Humber CRIME!!!...

This heinous crime happened back in 2004. Even if you don't care for Humber Scpetre Wagon, you got feel sorry for this car man... I mean the car was just in beautiful shape! What a shame really... why couldn't they find one of these to torch instead!... ;)

My condolences goes to the owner Mr. Aubrey Pinchbeck.

GB2Aus Update#3

John & Barry standing next to their 1968 London to Sydney Rally Hillman Hunter Replica & a Paykan in Northern Tehran. The 3rd picture from the top are my friends Sohrab & Sina who got a chance to hang out with them while they were traveling through Iran. John & Barry are in Pakistan now near the border of India. It has been a very interesting read following their Travel Blog, and also you can track their progress live here.

Good Luck John & Barry!!!.... Can't wait to see pictures from Australia!...

Paykan for Performance

This is an old Ad for Paykan from IranNational. I love the look of optimism in him, he is thinking: I'm going to get into my Paykan and drive through this swamp with my bird next to me! ;)

Estatemanship

Luxury to the limits... yes indeed!...

Masked Hunter

Starting from the top:
- 1966-76 Humber/Sunbeam Sceptre also very similar to Hunter GLS, and Paykan Javanan
- 1975-79 Hunter MK4/Sunbeam Hunter/Chrysler Hunter and Paykan

- 1966-70 Hillman Minx/Hunter, Sunbeam Minx/Hunter, and also Paykan Pick-up
- 1966-70 Singer/Sunbeam Vogue or Singer/Sunbeam Gazelle, and early model year Paykan

Missing in this picture is GLS, Hunter MK2 & MK3, and couple of Australian marks. So... your head is spinning by now, isn't it? Believe me, I'm still learning Rootes's Arrow body marketing schemes too, I'm thinking I can submit a PHD thesis on this. ;)

Photo is from Reza Amanatchi impressive collection.

Happy Earth Day

A Hunter among the massive secret vintage junkyard that was discovered couple of years back in Switzerland. As you can see the Hunter has nicely blended back to earth.

Count The Paykans#2

There was a time, not too long ago, that almost all of Iran's Taxis were Paykans, believe it or not they would fit 5 passenger at the same time in them. 3 people in the back and 2 on the front passenger seat, including the diver the poor Paykans were carrying 6 peoples through the notorious Iranian traffic.

Earth Mover!

40 years ago today more than 100 cars started The 1970 London-Mexico World Cup Rally at Wembley Stadium. The idea behind this rally was to mark the fact that the 1966 FIFA World Cup had been held in London and that the upcoming 1970 World Cup was to be held in Mexico. They covered 16,000 miles through Europe and south America. There were 4 Hillman Hunters among the contenders, including the Hunter#17 with the JCB sponsorship. Rootes Group officially didn't run a car in this rally. I guess they didn't wanted to push their luck too far, since two years prior they had already won the 1968 London to Sydney Marathon.

Only 23 cars finished the 1970 World Cup rally, and among them was Hunter#83 which finished 15th overall. Not bad ha?...

Srivathsa's Minx

Never thought one of these could exist in India, but here it is, a 1967 Hillman Hunter Minx. I sense a slight dissatisfaction in Srivathsa's face, is it maybe because he wishes Great Britain would have given India Hillman Hunters, instead of Hindustan Ambassador ?... ;)

Thanks to Theo for the tip.
