Press On Regardless

First time I heard about Press-on-Regardless Rally was from my friend Phil. I had no idea it was held right here in our backyard! After some digging managed to track down Scott Harvey, Jr. whom his father won the POR in a Sunbeam Arrow consecutively in 1969 & 1970 (and won it again in 1971 in a Plymouth Cricket, and again in 1994 with an Eagle Talon).
Andrew Cowan's win at the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon was the inspiration for Scott to pick the Arrow, he was a Chrysler employee and throughout his amazing racing career he used many other Chrysler vehicles.

I had a pleasure to meet Scott, Jr. whom has won the POR 3 times himself, this past fall for a long chat. His father is retired and now lives in California, but he is still tinkering with cars.

Special Thanks to Jr. for providing the photos and the articles above!

Paykan Lowrider#50

Sunbeam Watch

At first you might say, hang on a minute this should be a Singer Vogue! But in 1970 Chrysler/Rootes dropped Singer from their line up, and they re-badged the leftover Vogues as Sunbeam Vogue, so these RHD Sunbeams are rare.

Knight of Malta

That is what you call a ground-up restoration! Check out the stripped down body on the rotisserie. Absolutely brilliant work Joseph! I hereby declare you a Knight of Malta! :)
(Notice the Malta Cross badge on the c-pillar, which was put on the cars that were locally assembled there).

Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac

Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac was the French explorer dude who founded Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit in 1701, the location of which is now the city of Detroit. Check out the history behind the Cadillac Shield. You see, a Paykan can teach you a lot of useful history! ;)

Bird Sanctuary

This was shot from inside of s1gunnerman's lipstick pink Hillman Hunter estate, at the time it was the only car he could afford, and he was ashamed to take any exterior photos of it! :( Birds like it though! ;)

Man in Red

I stumbled upon Jonathan Harrison's site and he kindly provided additional photos for me to post here. Jonathan lived in Iran for almost two years, between 1973 and 1975. He and his mate Karl participated in couple of rallies in 1974 with their Paykans!

Jonathan also wrote a book: "Life's Hop, Skip & and a Jump" which includes details of his experiences in Iran. Thank you Jonathan for the photos, they are simply brilliant!
