Golden Vogue Revisited

I received a lovely email from Nigel the owner of that exceptional Golden Singer Vogue post back in January of this year.

Nigel wrote: "My family all had Hunter shaped Singer Vogues and the odd Humber Sceptres, so I grew up with them, infact I bought my uncle's 1967 Vogue when I first passed my driving test and have owned Arrow Vogues ever since.  Over the years I have had 23 of the cars including the Sherwood Green saloon that was on the Earls Court Motor Show stand when the model was launched in October 1966".

I am just stunned! 23 Singer Vogues so far? That is simply astonishing! And this Gold one has only 12k miles on the clock! Absolutly Brilliant! Thank you so much Nigel for the photos, you are truly an Arrowhead and I am so happy to get in touch with you! :)

Palmerston North Revisited

Found some more photos of that Palmerston North Singer Vogue post back in April. I absolutely love these photos and want send a Special Thank to MetropolisC5 for uploading them along with other photos of his many cars he used to own!

Update:

MetropolisC5 has kindly provided answers to my questions, so here are more details about the car:

Running In Sticker: "The sticker on the back was common-place in NZ at the time to warn other drivers that, as the car was new it shouldn't be driven at the limit until several thousand miles had been covered. Sometimes those words were followed by "Please Pass".

Blacked-Out Grille: "I was impressed by mid-sixties Chrysler products blackened grilles and as I saw some design cues with this car I found it fitting to do this. I didn't want to paint it as it would have made it too permanent and may have damaged the anodizing on removal. Electricians black insulation tape completed the shoddy job. This lasted just a few months, before I decided that it was very naff after all."

Door-Trims Lower Area: "The bottoms of the doors were finished in the same carpet as the flooring."

White-Wall Tires: "These white-walls were a 'clip-on' type which fitted between the tyre and wheel rim. The tyres of course were cross-plies, all that was ever fitted on NZ assembled cars at the time."

Also, "The back-up lights fitted, were not connected, and a payment had to be made for this."

Ray Powell Ltd Garage

Ray Powell Ltd garage, situated on Ferry Lane in Tottenham Hale, London. This fold-out poster was one of a set produced for children's schools in the early 1970s, this one was simply titled "The Garage" and dates to October 1973. The red car outside the garage is a Singer Vogue, I can see another blue Arrow (assuming it could be a Hillman Hunter), and I can spot a Humber Sceptre in the back also. Found the images over at oldclassiccar.co.uk

AGO

Another clean and complete looking Singer Vogue. It is a G reg. (1st Aug 1968 - 31st July 1969). Notice the more modern "Vogue" badges, which I beleive were put on for the 69 onward models. Photos by: Andy Reeve-Smith.

Palmerston North

I asked KiwiGippy to tell me more about the car and its owner:
"This car belonged to a very good friend of mine, (still good friends to this day), and he bought it new in Palmerston North. The car was assembled in New Zealand, and the hubcaps were the original ones fitted. They carry a Chrysler emblem, and were similar, if not identical, to hubcaps fitted to New Zealand built Chrysler Valiant VC - VE - VF models of the same period. I know that UK versions had a smooth hubcap with a small central indentation. Unfortunately, the car no longer exists in New Zealand car registration records, so it would be safe to assume that it has "disappeared."
