Brown Arrow Update#2

My first post about this Humber Sceptre goes back almost 2 years ago. Wilko220 has finally got the car back from the paint shop and the result is just beautiful. It is not finished yet, he is after a place to have the vinyl roof fitted, and the interior still needs some attention, but I want congratulate Wilko for rescuing such a fine example.

Man with a Pipe & Sceptre

"A small collection of photos featuring Humber Sceptre registration number YMG 333H turned up a while ago, the best of which are shown above. The car dates to 1970, and spent its early years in the South East of England. The first image is a head-on shot of the Humber, with its pipe-smoking owner stood alongside his metallic green motor-car.

The Humber Sceptre Mk3 went on sale in September 1967, the last ever Humber model to be produced. For the first couple of years, the Sceptre was produced at Ryton, but in 1969 was transferred to Linwood. Production of the well-specified Humber continued until 1976, by which time a mild update had been performed on the three-box saloon. It wouldn't be until 1974 that a handy estate version of the Sceptre would join the line-up, also the year that the subtle facelift was introduced to both versions, with larger chrome bumpers.

Evidently the couple shown in the photos above were pleased with their Mk3 Humber Sceptre, as its replacement was another almost identical car, albeit now an example of the facelifted version. This car was registered GLR 539N. Compared to the car above, the later car's revised chrome trim, and the Rostyle wheels, are clearly visible. The first in this next batch of photos is almost a carbon copy of the previous photograph, the location matches, and the same two ladies are stood once again with the Humber."

Big in Japan

One lucky bastard on Ebay got this one before I could bid! :( I don't have any other information about Arrows in Japan except this brochure, if you know anything please share it here.

Flammable Area

I would give my left arm to be transported back in time to this place! ;) This has to be Ryton Assembly Plant in Coventry  since Arrow production moved to Linwood, Scotland in 1969, this photo I believe was taken in 1967.
Lets start from front: The left-hand-drive red Sunbeam I believe is a Sunbeam Hunter which was for the European market (it could also be a Sunbeam Arrow which was for the North American market, but I doubt it). Behind it are bunch of right-hand-drive models, this is very interesting, they were building LHD & RHD models on the same line. In the background there is a brownish Humber Sceptre, and bunch of Wagons. Oh boy this place was on fire! ;)

London Cabbie

You got love Massoud's enthusiasm, he purchased this Humber Sceptre a while ago and had it totally redone and painted in a bright orange Paykan Taxi style!... This being a comprehensive Chrysler/Rootes Arrow series blog, I had to make a post about this Tehran Taxi in London, even though I am a purist when it comes to cars; I like originality (Paykan Taxis were never in Sceptre trim, they were very basic). For more check out this nice video and also this interesting article and slide show over at JadidOnline.

Massoud is planning to use this orange cab for charity work and I salute him for that! I'm sure he is putting a lot of smile on Iranian's faces over in London.

Ray Powell Ltd Garage

Ray Powell Ltd garage, situated on Ferry Lane in Tottenham Hale, London. This fold-out poster was one of a set produced for children's schools in the early 1970s, this one was simply titled "The Garage" and dates to October 1973. The red car outside the garage is a Singer Vogue, I can see another blue Arrow (assuming it could be a Hillman Hunter), and I can spot a Humber Sceptre in the back also. Found the images over at oldclassiccar.co.uk
